Fear and Loathing in Sylt 2005

After an early awakening, a peculiar group of people with sleepy looks headed for the train station. The night before, the future and the next day hade been covered in a mist of unawareness. An offer was made to make a journalistic excursion to the island of Sylt, and with respect to the circumstances the offer was irresistible. One of my colleges had furthermore, without my knowledge filled his backpack with a mixture of the heaviest drugs. There was German Wurst, Gurken (cucumber), Mustard and Ketchup and believe it or not: Wine and Beer (in plastic bottle, but still). This, of course was of great joy to the squad of alert travelers.

My colleges made at an early stage clear how the trip was to be conducted. With great enthusiasm they were pointing with great confidence on the map: “Hier, hier, hier. Hier, hier, hier, hier, hier, hier, hier”. The drugs (such as Coke) had flown for a long time now, but after another bus trip, a short walk over the dunes, the party agreed to bring out the heavy artillery. The Wurst, and the Brötschen (rolls) was eaten greedily, Feur Karol “the Lawyer” had so much he felt he had to put the whole island on fire. Luckily he was stopped at the last minute. But this was not enough. The “Leute” (people) felt it was time for something more… Something even heavier… The Apple.

From now on, the memories seem to be blurred and the author seems to be in a state of half awake, and half in a delirium (I don’t quite know what it is but it is probably very cool). It appears that the party split up and wandered around Sylt (The northernmost island in Germany by the way). From what has been heard (in town) and from scattered notes (from the author’s little red one) this is what happened:
- The female members were no longer capable of moving so their only option was to stay where they were. Unfortunately they also kept two Apples (dangerous stuff).
- One group climbed the largest sand dunes, walked randomly around the island for some time. The information from this “trip” is very incomplete but they were for sure seen again in the village of Sylt a couple of hours later.
- The last members slowly strolled along the east beach. Sylt is not only the northernmost island of Germany, it is also world famous for its nudist beaches (source: Very trustable), or as they say “F K K”-Strand (F Ka Ka). Anyway, these members were also later seen in the village of Sylt, but before that some remarkable things appear to have happened: They played in the sand, they climbed up and jumped (Swedish accent) down sand dunes, they spotted at least one German naked male (about 55).

In the village the complete set of companions were rejoined and what is called “The Nice of Germany” meaning a village, close to the sea where things are more expensive than they should be. A long day had passed, the sun was setting and the tired but happy people was longing for home… but… NOT… The “Reiseleiter” forbid anyone to go home and a night was spent in the mystical town of Flensburg and its extraordinary beer “Flensburger”…. But that is another story.
